Incompletes - Work in Progress
Incompletes are to be used to accommodate the student who was ill or had extenuating circumstances and could not reasonably complete the course work during the term.
Incompletes cannot be used for students who are late in turning in the required work or did not take the final test (without prior approval of the college dean).
All incompletes (I) and work-in-progress (X) must be made up by the end of the next regular term (excluding summer sessions). While it is the student’s responsibility to make up the incomplete work, it is the faculty member’s responsibility to see that the grade change is made as soon as the student makes up the work.
If an appropriate letter grade (A, B, C, D, F, S, or U) has not been awarded by the instructor in the next regular term of the following semester, the “I” (Incomplete) will automatically change to an “F” grade. The University Registrar is authorized to make this change on the student’s academic record.
Any subsequent grade change can be done only with the approval of the appropriate faculty member (or the appropriate department chair if that faculty member is no longer employed by the University) and the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Faculty members are responsible for seeing course work requiring more than a term to complete is given a grade of “X” for work-in-progress, not an incomplete grade (used in internships, special projects, etc.).
