About Leadership Studies Curriculum

Students study the qualities and practices of effective leaders, global leadership, leadership & change, 21st Century leadership, and take honors courses that count for general education requirements in a learning community comprised of 100 "TR Scholars" from across the United States and the globe. The TR Program curriculum culminates in a Leadership Studies Minor.

The TR Program experience includes, at no cost to the student, a wide array of special learning opportunities like a personal enhancement retreat, leadership satellite seminars, invited authors and speakers, national and regional honors conference participation, enhanced internships and study tours, and the privilege of living in honors housing. There are also service and study abroad opportunities. Those who take full advantage of the TR Program distinguish themselves academically and through service, and equip themselves for excellence in graduate school or any vocation.

What the TR Scholars are reading:

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

By Stephen R. Covey

TR Leadership
Theodore Roosevelt on Leadership
By James M. Strock

Iceberg
Our Iceberg is Melting
By John Kotter

The World is Flat
By Thomas L. Friedman

Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap … and Others Don’t
By Jim Collins

Creative Leadership: Skills That Drive Change
By Gerald J. Puccio, Mary C. Murdock, and Marie Mance

The TR Program adds a distinctive layer of excellence to the collegiate experience at Dickinson State University . . .[and it] fits into the University’s efforts to educate and to retain leaders for this region. The TR Program clearly adds value to the entire campus community.
