About the Students

students
TR scholars went to LaBoca, Nuevo Leon, Mexico for a mission trip on their Alternative Spring Break service abroad experience in Mexico in March 2006.  While there, they helped modernize a local church by installing running water in the restroom and kitchen. This was the first structure in the village to have running water.

Student Assistant Director
The student assistant director holds an annual Fireside Chat, mentors committee chairs, serves as liaison between the TR Scholars community and the administration, and serves as first-line student advisor.

The TR Executive Committee
Student representatives from each class encourage positive participation, oversee student initiatives, and organize freshman orientation. The executive committee helps shape the program and ensures continuous improvement.

TR Scholar Community Committees
Students can serve on the following committees:
Housing Committee – the voice of the TR Scholars regarding campus housing issues
Social Committee – sponsors events that build community, welcomes new students, gives TR Scholars a change to have fun together
Service Committee – creates opportunities for TR Scholars to give back to the campus and local communities

TR Program Administrative Committees
Students can serve on all of the following committees:
Long Term Planning Committee – is responsible for providing the philosophical foundation and direction for the continual improvement and evolution of the Theodore Roosevelt Honors Leadership Program.
Honors Curriculum Committee – is responsible to initiate ideas, create solutions, exercise oversight, and work with all persons involved to insure the quality, consistency, and clarity of a reasonably challenging curriculum for the Theodore Roosevelt Honors Leadership Program.
Scholarship Committee- is responsible for reviewing applications for each incoming Freshman class of TR Scholars and serves as a board of appeals for those who have been removed from the TR Program for failure to meet the guidelines for maintenance of program status.

Leadership Studies Minor
The leadership studies minor was implemented at the urging of TR Scholars, with the support of the Honors Curriculum Committee.

Mentoring Program
The TR Executive Committee designed and implemented a mentor program.

In addition to the leadership opportunities directly linked to the TR Program, TR Scholars serve as members and officers of many campus organizations such as the homecoming committee of the student senate and the campus activity board.  Many are student athletes, active in residence life, band, choir, and theatre.  They are highly sought after by the community as interns and volunteers.
