April 20-21 Yellow Jacket Invitational - Complete Results
The Blue Hawks have hit the links again this spring and they have picked-up right where they left off in the fall season.
On April 13-14 the teams traveled to Spearfish, S.D., and played in the Hardrocker Invitational hosted by South Dakota School of Mines.
The Blue Hawk men topped the team chart with 633 strokes. Their 311 on day-two was needed because the 2nd place team Minot State had built a five-stoke lead after the first 18 holes. DSU won the tournament by just two shots.
On the women’s side, only 38 strokes separated the top four teams, but unfortunately, the Blue Hawks could claim only 2nd place. Their 778 total strokes were 17 over the pace set by Jamestown College but six shots better than Black Hills State.
Both men and women’s individual leader lists were topped by DSU players. For the men, Terry Poulsen edged Justin Aberle of Minot State 153 to 156. Poulsen’s sizzling 74 on the second day, allowed him to pass three other golfers as he was only tied for 4th after 18 holes, and five strokes off of the pace set by Aberle.
Kelsey Boedeker’s win was owed to her consistency as she shot back-to-back 89’s to win by two shots over Whitney Stanley of Minot State. Boedeker was tied with Jessica Johnson of Jamestown College at the end of the first day, but Johnson could only manage a second-day round of 94 and fell to 3rd place. Stanley kept the heat on Boedeker with a course-leading 87 on the day but she still had to pay for her first day score of 93.
Last weekend, DSU was in action again in South Dakota, this time in Spearfish at the Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by Black Hills State University.
For the women, they defeated four other teams, the nearest of which was Black Hills State and they claimed 2nd place but it was by a sizable 41 strokes. Megan Fisher did much of the damage with a dominating two-day total of 156. Her 80-shot first day total gave her a nine-stroke lead of her teammate Boedeker, but then Fisher really geared-up and followed her first day with a 76 on the second day. No other golfer could do better than 85, so Fisher found herself alone at the finish. Lyndsey Kent’s 177 was good enough to claim 3rd place and Boedeker was right behind her with a 179 two-day total.
The men’s team was turned away by Minot State, 635 to 624. The Beaver slid into the top three slots on the individual leader board, with Jordan Kelly’s 151 topping the list. Jake Fladeland (157), Poulsen (159) and Adam Cayko (159) were the next three low scores in 4th, 5th and 6th places respectively.
