Online Learning Environment
- Online courses are those offered via the Internet. With this instructional format, people anywhere are able to access college credit courses from Dickinson State University.
- Online courses do not require attendance on campus.
- Online courses follow the regular academic calendar as established by the North Dakota University System (NDUS)
- Online courses are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week throughout the semester.
- Online study allows students flexibility in scheduling their study time and in completing their assigned work.
- Most online courses have set due dates for assignments and quizzes as established by the individual instructor

The following information will help you decide
if you want to be an online student and it will provide you
with information to make your experience trouble-free.
First-time Online Student
To help you decide if you have what it takes to participate in an online class,
complete this free self-assessment. It takes less than three minutes to complete
and provides you with frank feedback on your potential as an online student.
Your Computer
To see if your computer meets the requirements of our online
classes, visit our “Technical Specifications” and “Tune
Up Your Browser” sites.
Remember to check the registration page for special software
requirements for particular classes.
Books
Students are responsible for getting their books before courses begin. Since the materials will need to be mailed to you, plan accordingly.
Be sure to check the registration page for any special textbook requirements.
Students are able to order their books online from University Store at Dickinson State University at http://www.bkstr.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/StoreCatalogDisplay?storeId=11478&langId=-1&catalogId=10001. Course materials for online courses may differ slightly from those used on campus.
Completion Time
Students in full semester classes will follow the calendar found in the campus
catalog for expected completion dates.
Fees, Tuition, Payment
First-time Dickinson State University students will be charged a $35 nonrefundable
application fee.
Tuition for online classes is $246 per credit.
Payment can be made by check, money order, or credit card.
Details are provided on the registration page.
Federal Financial Aid
Students are eligible for Federal Financial Aid if:

They are working toward diplomas or associate degrees from Dickinson State
University.
·
They are working toward a collaborative online North Dakota University System
Associate of Arts degree.
Students are NOT eligible for Federal Financial Aid if:

They are not working toward diplomas or associate degrees.

Refunds and Withdrawals
Students who drop a class or classes and remain in school will
receive refunds based on the following schedule
First seven (7) class days 100%
Thereafter 0%
Although a refund won’t be granted after the 7th class day for class
changes, the student may add the same number of online credit hours at no charge,
plus any additional fees.
For students who must withdraw from school after registration of the fall or spring semester, please contact the Office of Extended Campus.
How to Drop or Add a Class
To drop or add an online class or totally withdraw from all
classes, please contact your site coordinator, or the Extended
Campus office in Dickinson
to initiate the paperwork. See the Important Dates below
for information on last dates to drop or add classes. If
you are taking this class as a collaborative student, the
drop or add must be processed through your home campus. Before
dropping or adding a class consider the possible ramifications
to your completion plan and your financial aid status.
