A key hit and two runs driven-in by Kelly Jahn in the 6th inning of DSU’s opening round game, broke a 2-2 tie and allowed the Blue Hawks to come-from-behind and put them ahead to stay of the Jamestown Jimmies. The 4-2 win gave DSU the momentum it was looking for and they carried that push to two more DAC Tournament wins en route to the title. The 33-6 Hawks already had earned the regular season crown and now prepare themselves for the Region Tournament, hosted by Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa.
DSU has been confident all year with their offensive attack, but Head Coach Guy Fridley was running out of options in Game 1 until the bats awoke in their second-to-last chance. The Hawks shut-down the Jimmies in the 7th inning and seized the control they wanted.
In Game 2, Black Hills State was on the short end of a 5-1 score. Mehgan Shaw pitched a 2-hitter and did not allow an earned run. Nicole Marcoux and Sara Jane Webster had two hits and an RBI apiece. Jody Lantz also drove-in a run and was one-for-three at the plate.
In the championship game, Minot State struggled with the pitching of Webster who carried a no-hitter into the last inning. The Beavers ultimately lost 3-2 but scored just one earned run. Jahn, Webster and Ashley Neufeld all collected one hit and one RBI for the Blue Hawks.

The Dickinson State Softball team captured its third straight Dakota Athletic Conference title yesterday beating Minot State 6-1 and 9-1. The Blue Hawks had their backs to the wall and needed the two wins to take home the crown.
The Hawks started off game 1 strong by jumping out to a 3-0 first-inning lead. In that half frame, the Hawks had three singles and two doubles to take the early advantage. Those runs were all pitcher Sara Jane Webster needed. Webster held-down the Beaver bats by giving up one run on six hits and striking out nine batters.
The Blue Hawk bats were not done however, as they added two more runs in the third when Nikki Marcoux and Jody Lantz hit back to back home runs--for the third time this season--to take a commanding 5-0 lead. The Hawks added one more insurance run in the sixth to seal the game one victory.
In game two, the Blue Hawk bats stayed alive. DSU pounded out 12 hits en-route to a 9-1 win. Jessica Huseby belted her first home run of the season in the seventh inning. Webster went back to the circle and threw another impressive game, giving up just one run on five hits and striking out nine batters.
With the two-game sweep, the Hawks move their overall record to 30-6 and 16-4 in the DAC. The Blue Hawks will be in action next at the DAC tournament this Friday and Saturday in Jamestown.
