Jennifer Hartman Earns DAC Freshman of the Year Award

All DAC Freshman of the Year
|
The very young Blue Hawks Volleyball Team had a number of players, along with other freshman in the conference, up for the Dakota Athletic Conferences Freshman of the Year Award. Six of the Blue Hawks starting rotation were freshman, but it was the 6'0" right side hitter from Miles City, Montana Jennifer Hartman who stood out to the coaches in the DAC.
Coach Platt had this to say, "The numerous freshman who started for us this year deserved this award too, but Jennifer just stood out a little more this season. She is an amazing volleyball player, person, and was a joy to coach this season. She is extremely coachable, a gifted athlete/volleyball player, and has a team first attitude. It is amazing how fast and much she has developed this season, especially since she played Middle Blocker and never passed in high school. The irony of this is that we were going to red shirt Jen this year until Judith Boel went down with a season ending injury just two weeks into our season. We are all extremely proud of Jennifer and she deserves this award.”
Young Hawks Season Comes To An End In The DAC Quarterfinals
Saturday the young Blue Hawks season came to end with a loss (1-3) to Minot State. The Hawks came out in game one and looked very impressive by being ahead the entire game. In the following games the less experienced Hawks team seemed to slowly lose focus and the Beavers slowly chipped away and won the next three games.
Coach Platt had this to say about the team, "It was a tough loss, but the team played all year at a disadvantage by being younger and less experienced than everyone in the DAC. But, it was a great foundation for these young players and will help us in our future. Graduating no seniors, having the majority of our team back next season, getting some key players back from season ending injuries, and being able to recruit some players that will push us to the next level should make for a fun and exciting season next year. This was a great group to coach; we learned a great deal and had a blast. Thank you to our great fans, faculty, parents, and support staff; they were all great."
Split Weekend For Young Blue Hawk Volleyball Team
The very young Blue Hawks Volleyball Team split their final home weekend matches against Jamestown College and Valley City. The Blue Hawks lost to Jamestown on Friday night 3-1 in front of a great Halloween crowd. There were WWF wrestlers, Borat, cowboys, nurses, and someone even saw Elvis. The following night there were still fans dressed in a few different costumes and the Blue Hawks won 3-1 by the scores of 25-14, 25-23, 20-25, 25-19.
Coach Platt had this to say about the matches, "We played great up to a certain point against Jamestown and then our focus dropped toward the end of each match; showing just a little bit of our youth. The first two games I believe we were even tied 14-14. Valley City we played very steady almost the whole way through the match, with the exception of the end of game 3. We passed and served great, Pe hustled a lot for us setting the ball, and our blocking was great. Our Libero, Sasha Bruels, played phenomenally tonight. It was a great team effort and a lot of fun. We are hoping that this will carry over to Wednesday night when we play at Minot."
