Dave Moody
Head Coach
Dave MoodyEvery collegiate coach dreams of winning a national championship. Dave Moody got to live his dream last year as the Hawks won 39 matches against only 1 loss enroute to a magical season. Along the way, Moody was honored as the NAIA National Championships Coach of the Year. He was also recognized as the North Dakota Female Collegiate Coach of the Year by the statewide media. Sports Illustrated also recognized Coach Moody in the January 1, 2001 issue of the Faces in the Crowd section.

Moody is originally from Wisconsin where he graduated from the University of Wisonsin-LaCrosse in 1982 with a bachelor of science degree in physical education and health education and a concentration in coaching. In 1990, he graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a master of science degree in sports administration.

Moody enters his 12th season at Dickinson State with a 280-105 (73%) record and an established reputation as one of the finest small college volleyball programs in the country. The Hawks have won 3 of the last 4 regional volleyball tournaments, have participated in 3 of the last 4 NAIA National Championships and have not lost to a conference opponent in 64 matches, a streak that dates back to 1996.

In the past 11 years, the Hawks have been honored with 11 All-American awards, 25 All-Region selections and 38 All-Conference picks.

Academically, the Hawks also have a proud tradition in the classroom where they have been honored 3 of the last 4 years with the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for teams which carry at least a 3.3 GPA during the academic year. Last year’s team boasted a 3.35 GPA. In the past 11 years, DSU has been honored with 11 Academic All-American selections.

In addition to coaching volleyball, Moody also serves on the AVCA Curriculum Council and as the National Rater for Region III. Moody was also recently elected to the NAIA-Volleyball Coaches Assocation Board as Secretary-Elect for 2001-2002.

Moody also serves as a speaker and clinician for clinics and camps across the Midwest. He additionally officiates high school volleyball.

At Dickinson State, Moody currently holds the rank of a tenured Assistant Professor in the department of education where he teaches primarily in the elementary physical education area. Kay Moody
Assistant Coach

Kay Moody enters her eleventh season as assistant coach for the Blue Hawks. Prior to coming to Dickinson State, she was head volleyball coach at the University of Mary from 1987-90, compiling an 87-58 record and capturing one NDCAC title (1990) and two sub-district titles (1989 and 1990). A 1982 magna cum laude graduate of Dickinson State, Moody coached one year at her alma mater before moving on to Beulah, ND, where she coached track and taught in the elementary school until 1987. Moody played on conference tournament championship volleyball teams at Dickinson State in 1979 and 1982, and a conference championship basketball team in 1981.

Neslihan Yilmaz
Assistant Coach

Neslihan Yilmaz is beginning her first season as a coach for the Blue Hawks. The Istanbul, Turkey native graduated from DSU in the fall of 2001 with a degree in business administration.Yilmaz played volleyball for the Blue Hawks from 1996-00. She is arguably the best volleyball player ever to suit up for the Hawks, or ever to play in the NAIA for that matter. She was a four time NAIA All-American (twice receiving first team honors and twice receiving second team honors). She was also an unprecidented four time regional and conference player of the year. In 2000 she was named NAIA national player of the year after she led Dickinson State to its first ever national title. She is the only player (in any sport) at Dickinson State to be named national player of the year. She finished her career with over 2,000 kills and 2,000 digs, one of only a handful of volleyball players ever to accomplish that feat. She ranks 2nd all time in the NAIA with 2,682 career kills.
Yilmaz is currently employed by Dakota Community Bank in Dickinson.
